So Microsoft registered the following domain names.

At first i thought Microsoft was going into the model business. After all Windows 8 looks like one big fail to me so it is only natural to have a backup plan Smilie: ;)

But a little research shows that the boys at MS doing some pretty heavy research.

We lead, collaborate on or are involved with a wide variety of scientific projects involving different scientific questions, taxa, spatiotemporal scales and methodology. But we are currently working especially hard on CCF1.0, a model of the terrestrial carbon cycle; and the Madingley model, a new model of global biodiversity and ecosystem function. We hope that CCF1.0 will enable more accurate, transparent and defensible predictions of terrestrial carbon down to regional scales; whereas the Madingley model allows us to begin to understand how different biotic processes fit together to make the biosphere.

And ofcourse you already sorta knew that MS would spend a boat load of cash on research and then when you see what they already working on is pretty cool to see. Why not have a look yourself here. Pretty cool stuff for sure.

Currently the domain names are pointed to the bing search engine.
